This 6 days/7nights Al Baraka special desert week will bring you into the core of the Dakhla desert. You will fall asleep under a starry sky, take a bath at sulfur springs and enjoy a selection of delicious local food surrounded by the nature that made such delicacies possible. Furthermore, you will be surprised by the many ways water can show up in the desert. All of this, at a slow pace and in a small group. The programme (scroll past the picture for details) consists of one day along the Dakhla peninsula, four days with substantial desert experience and one free day to let you taste other sides of Dakhla or just relax on the beach. You will also sleep two nights in the desert, one of which in the Dakhla savannah, where outstanding observations of wild animals can be made. To activate this package, a minimum number of three participants is needed but, to let you get the most out of your Dakhla experience, we will accept a maximum number of six participants. Please contact us for a personalised package and/or if you are fewer than three participants.
(*) 690 Euro is the total price per person combining the service by Dakhla Rovers (428 Euro per person) and accommodation at Al Baraka (double standard room, B&B, 262 Euro per person). Day 1 - White Dune, Oyster farm, Atlantic waves. One of Dakhla's "must-see", this is a single white dune surrounded by the ocean at high tide, flamingos often at sight. You'll get a first impression of the area's stunning colours and views. We will then head back along the peninsula to reach the Oyster farm. A long-established cooperative, it has become one of the best fish restaurant of the region. Pick your favourite among fresh oysters, baked fish with vegetables, octopus, sepia, squids or razors shells tajine, grilled lobster (notes: depending on the season and on the catch of the day, some items might not be available; lunch at the Oyster farm is to be paid separately by each participant). After lunch, we will head north again and admire the power of ocean waves along the Atlantic coast. Return to Dakhla in the afternoon. Participants will be free for dinner and for the evening. Total km: about 100, starting from Dakhla and returning to Dakhla.
Day 2 + 3 - Planes, mountains, sand and "savannah". This will be an immersive adventure with a substantial amount of off road experience and one night camping in the wild. We will set off on Day 2, around 09:30/10:00 in the morning. We will spend about two hours on tarmac, pacing and stopping to spot birds and other critters while the landscape turns from coastal to desert to savannah. After lunch, we will cross through the savannah and reach a small mountain complex where rocks, sand and vegetation are uniquely blended. Water pools may be present, too, depending on season. You may decide to go hiking or rest in the shade of trees and rocks - the camp will be ready for our evening meal and night. On Day 3, after a good breakfast, we will head back to Dakhla crossing a vast plateau with a mountain massif on the background. We will stop in the surroundings of a well, where the presence of herds and local sheperds is possible. We might happen to be invited for a tea, or have a snack on our own. Possible further stops along the way back may include a cosy aperitive at the end of the bay (not included in the offer), depending on timing and conditions. Participants will be free for dinner and for the evening. Total km for Day 2 + 3: about 600, starting from Dakhla on Day 2 and returning to Dakhla on Day 3.
Day 4 - Free day. This is a free day to relax, try kitesurfing, surfing or sailing or just chill out. You choose! You will be autonomous, and may decide to rent a car. Whatever your choice, we are at your disposal for any suggestions, indication on what to do, where, how etc …
Day 5 + 6 - Sebkha of Imlili, desert and coast. This is a desert and coast trip, consisting of two days and one night camping in the desert to discover some of the most famous features of the area. We will have a late start in the morning, heading south along the other side of the Dakhla bay. We will stop for lunch along the sea with a stunning view over the White Dune and, possibly, over flocks of migratory birds. Back on tarmac, we'll move eastward and then off road to reach a small sebkha (depression with salted floor) characterised by permanent pools of salted water with fish. Welcome to the famous Sebkha of Imlili! Pools are small, but unique and beautifully colored. The sebkha is surrounded by bushes and plants, close to three wells and a regular venue for wild animals and herders. Our next stop will bring us to the site where we'll set up the camp, enjoy our dinner and sleep under the stars. Day 6 will start with a good breakfast, then we will return to the coast following a new path. We will chill out on the beach for lunch and early afternoon, then head back to Dakhla possibly stopping at the sulfur spring for a revitalising hot shower. Participants will be free for dinner and for the evening. Total km: about 350, starting from Dakhla on Day 5 and returning to Dakhla on Day 6.
